Painting Selene: Capturing Moonlight on Canvas

Selene, the moon goddess, is the latest in my Empresses and Angels Collection (although since this is the second goddess I have painted, I am thinking of calling it the Goddess and Angels Collection!)

My wee beastie was unintentionally named after two goddesses.  In fact, one of her names is derived from Selene.

So when the Wee Beastie saw I was painting her next, she was naturally beside herself with excitement.

But Selene has not been an easy paint. I realised today that I actually started her at the end of MAY! So three and a half months later, she is finally done.

If you follow me on Instagram you may have caught my progress stories as I struggled with her hands, her hair, her dress colour, the moon sparkles…. I wasn’t an easy paint, but the result is super rewarding!

Beastie leaves an offering every full moon for Selene, asking the fairies to leave a wee gift (which they do!), and she suggested that next full moon we put my Selene out to be blessed by the moon goddess. 

Which of course we did.
