Usually, spring emerges from the foggy winter, unfurling one tortuous petal at a time.Â
Not in 2026, apparently!Â
We are straight into the shorts, windows open and electric blankets off here in the LilliBean Studio.Â
And with daylight saving changing the clocks on the weekend, I personally, am all over the shop. Is it time for bed? Why am I eating lunch at 3 pm? Why isn’t it dark at 6 pm any more?Â
Suddenly my For You page is full of spring cleaning, reinventing ourselves with the 100 or so days left of the year, and taking advantage of the longer days and warmer weather.Â
And there is a huge part of me who wants to just throw open the windos, start the seventy hundred new projects I have storing up for just the right time (which is now apparently!), plant stupidly bright plants that won’t last the summer, and pretend that I don’t have a to-do list that is overwhelmingly long.Â
I am resisting hard the urge to do all those things and instead embracing a few simple spring rituals that are less intense than decluttering my entire home in one sitting.Â
Because I want to start celebrating the changes of the seasons. To not just slide from one to the next in an endless Groundhog Day cycle where the only difference is the temperature outside.
So this year, I am trying out some small spring rituals to celebrate the return of the sun and the changes in light.Â

What exactly is a spring ritual?
For my purposes, a spring ritual has to be whimsical, easy to do, require no more than half an hour, and most importantly, can be a one-and-done if I want.
It isn’t a new routine that I need to check off each day, or another habit I need to track. And it definitely isn’t something else to feel guilty about because I enthusiastically did it for three days and then completely forgot it existed.
It could simply be an ordinary moment in the garden with a cup of tea, made a little more whimsical by collecting a few flowers to put next to my computer to enjoy while I work.Â
It’s a tiny moment that says: Oh, hello spring. I see you.
THREE SPRING RITUALS TO INVITE MORE WHIMSY INTO YOUR DAY.
- CLEANSE AWAY THE WINTER AIR:
Open your windows and curtains, letting in fresh air and sunshine. Refresh your home by burning incense, lighting a spring-smelling candle, using a room spray, or making your little bundle with dried rosemary, lavender, and rose, bringing some of the garden indoors.
It doesn’t need to be an epic spring clean; just open everything up for a little while and let spring blow through the house.Â

- BEGIN YOUR MORNING WITH A LITTLE WHIMSY:
Before summer hits and sunrise is some stupidly early time of the morning, pop out to watch the sun greet the day.
Take your morning drink with you and spend a few moments feeling the shift of the day, letting the early rays bathe your skin.
Before you head inside, notice three beautiful things before you begin your day.
A bird. The colours in the sky. A flower opening. The light on a spider’s web. - CREATE A SPRING ALTAR:
Gather a few little symbols of spring, such as fresh flowers (tulips, daffodils or other wild flowers you’ve picked), fallen leaves, feathers, twigs or other treasures you find outside.
Add pastel coloured candles, ribbons, crystals or rocks, pieces of art, fresh bread or anything else that feels like spring to you.Â
Arrange them on a shelf, table or windowsill as your own tiny celebration of the season’s change.
There are no rules about what belongs on a spring altar. It doesn’t have to be deeply spiritual or Pinterest-worthy.
It can simply be a little collection of things that make you happy when you walk past.

A little more spring whimsy
If these little rituals have you wanting to celebrate spring in your own way, I have a little something for you.
I’ve created Finding Whimsy in Spring, a free collection of 10 more simple spring rituals designed to help you slow down, notice the changing season and invite a little more whimsy into your everyday life.
And they’re completely different from the three I’ve shared here, so you won’t be downloading something only to discover you’ve already read half of it!
Like the rituals above, none of them require a new routine, an enormous amount of time or a trip to the shops for seventeen obscure ingredients.
They’re simply little invitations to notice spring while it’s here.
You can choose one that calls to you, try all ten over the season, or save them for those days when you feel like you need a little more magic.
Also included in the spring download are colouring pages, DIY stickers, and beautiful printables for your daily to-do lists and monthly lists.
Finding Whimsy in Spring is completely free just pop your details in below, and I’ll send it straight to your inbox.
And while you’re there, you’ll also join me for my occasional LilliBean letters from the studio filled with art, behind-the-scenes stories, new creations and little reminders to notice the magic hiding in ordinary days.
You don’t need to do it all
You don’t need to complete every ritual, create the perfect morning routine or transform your entire life simply because the calendar says it’s spring.
Maybe you try one ritual. Maybe you invent your own. Maybe your entire spring ritual consists of sitting outside with a cup of tea, watching the clouds and ignoring the washing for ten minutes. And perhaps that’s enough.
Because celebrating a season isn’t really about doing more. Maybe it’s simply about noticing that it’s here.
What’s one little thing you’re looking forward to this spring? I’d love to know.
From my whimsy world to yours.
