THE BEGINNING: THE STORY OF THE ORACLES.

IN THE BEGINNING – I never sat down to intentionally create an oracle deck.

Most of my ideas are just that, ideas. It comes through, I create it, and share it with my community, or I write it down for another time.

The oracles were different; they came slowly, like a whisper.

During lockdown, to keep my sanity, to keep from losing my shit while homeschooling the girls, and to keep the anxiety at bay, I’d paint quick and dirty journal pages of how I was feeling, how we were feeling, or how the world was feeling.

I realised after a while that these paintings carried messages for me (like be brave or just breathe) and after seeing how much they resonated with my community, I knew there was a message for you too.

Sometimes I sit down to paint just because (Because I haven’t in a while, because I am feeling too big for my skin, because I have an issue I need to work through and need to turn off my brain, because it’s raining….you get the idea), and on this day, I painted, no plan, no idea, and when I finished I had no idea who this was.

The next week I painted again, just because (although this time the just because was that I didn’t have any ideas for a new painting and found a random sketch in my book to paint) and when I finished, I had a painting called The Knowing.

The weeks that followed had a similar pattern, with no idea of what to paint (and becoming more than a little pissed off that the muse hadn’t given me an idea for a new collection), I would just sit down and paint. Sometimes from a sketch, sometimes without, always without a concrete plan.

And they were all very different from my usual style of painting (no layering, no smooshing), and they all had a ‘THE’ name. The Courage, The Alchemist, The Serenity.

Sometimes the muse needs to give me a big kick in the pants, because it was obvious to everyone but me what I was creating.

The Oracles began with no idea what I was doing, no idea what it was about to become or the journey I would take to make them.

And once I realised what I was creating, there was no going back.
