Painting the Morrigan: Celtic Inspiration and Artistry

the morrigan - lillibean designs original painting

Last year, my nephew had a god and goddess party for his birthday as he was slightly obsessed with the Percy Jackson books.

But instead of going as a Greek or Roman goddess, I decided to delve into my Celtic ancestry and choose a goddess from that pantheon.

I have always loved the idea of the Morrigan: a triple goddess, the phantom queen, the keeper of both birth and death. A goddess of war and a shapeshifter.

And the more I read about her, the more I knew I wanted to paint her as part of my Angels and Empress series.

While painting her, I wasn’t always sure how she would end up – there were definitely some WTF moments when I thought I may have to start again, but I think she may be one of my favourites to date!

The Morrigan has long since found her Forever Home, but prints of her are available in three sizes.
