Your home should feel like a hug… and a little bit like magic.
Not perfect. Not styled within an inch of its life. But layered with meaning, memory, and tiny sparks of wonder.
Since I began Lillibean Designs, I’ve been a little bit obsessed with this idea of bringing whimsy into real life.
And, if I’m honest, bringing whimsy into life began as a small, quiet rebellion.
Against the weight of adulthood. The bills. The endless responsibilities. Raising three tiny humans. The delicate balancing of all the roles I had and wanted to have.
Somewhere in my late 30s, I realised, being an adult wasn’t very fun anymore.
So Lillibean wasn’t just about creating art, it was about creating feeling of moments of magic and flickers of whimsy in everyday spaces.
It was about looking at a shelf with tiny pockets of delight.
- Sprites peeking out from behind plants.
- A wee beastie sitting beside a candle that only gets lit at Christmas.
- A mini moonscape glowing quietly next to your very practical, very full noticeboard.
Because life is hard. And I think we deserve to surround ourselves with something that feels a little bit magical.
So if you’ve ever wondered “how do I style this?” or “where does it go?”
Here’s how I would create a Lillibean whimsy wall, or shelf or a little corner of your world.
Start with Feeling (Always)
Before you place a single piece. Ask yourself: How do I want this space to feel?
Not: does it match or does it look like Pinterest? Ask: Does it feel like me?
When I ask this, the answer is soft light, warmth, a little wildness and always a story or memory.
This may look like fairy lights glowing at dusk. Candles instead of overhead lights. Your child’s macramé hanging proudly on the wall. Netted curtains that soften a space.
It’s not about clutter but it’s not about minimalism either.
It’s a curated space.

Mix, Don’t Match
I’ll be honest – perfectly spaced matching frames on a wall? Not for me. (That’s my husband’s vibe. And he does it beautifully. But I like a little less uniformity)
I love mixing things up.
Large prints next to tiny pieces.
Original paintings beside found objects.
Old frames in gold and silver and wood, all living together.
Your art doesn’t have to stay exactly how you bought it, either. Trim it. Layer it. Reframe it. Let it evolve with you.
A whimsy wall might include:
- Your own artwork
- Pieces from other artists
- Your children’s art
- Objects collected over time (hello, wooden seahorse from Cuba)
- Little shelves holding jars, feathers, crystals and other ephemera
So it becomes less of a gallery wall and more of a story wall – A reflection of your life, your memories, your magic.
Layer Your Story
I have always created pieces that are meant to be anchors, little reminders or whispers, and this is where your spaces can really become unique.
On my shelves, you’ll find:
- My weekly soul whisper or oracle card,
- A candle I light before I begin work,
- Wee beasties that hold meaning from a meditation journey,
- Elemental Beasties that remind me to stay grounded and balanced
- A guardian angel quietly watches over everything
And then there are the found items: feathers from my walk (so many feathers), shells from our beach adventures, rocks from travels, and flowers from the garden.
Some of the shelves are full, and some have only two things.
There are no rules here, just intention.
The magic is when these little collections become part of your daily rhythm, tiny visual cues for how you want to feel, live, and move through your days.

Keep It Evolving
My favourite part about all these spaces is that they keep evolving.
Your whimsy wall (or shelf, or noticeboard) doesn’t have to stay the same.
In fact, it shouldn’t.
Let it shift with the seasons and with your seasons of life.
In autumn, maybe it’s pinecones and red, brown and gold leaves. In spring, flowers from the garden. At Samhain, my witchy wee beastie comes out with her little white cat.
Even your noticeboards can hold magic. Among the to-do lists, school notes, and reminders, tuck in a Soul Mantra and a Daydream.
Tiny pieces of art that remind you to believe in something more.
One of my customers even has a sprite hanging from her car mirror.
Whimsy doesn’t have to stay in one place.
Creating a home filled with beauty and meaning doesn’t have to be big.
You don’t need a full gallery wall, and you don’t need shelves upon shelves.
Sometimes it’s just one little piece sitting quietly on your desk, making you smile when you catch it out of the corner of your eye.
And maybe that’s enough.
And if you’re feeling the pull to create your own little pockets of magic, I’ve created a collection of prints, small collectables, and tiny artworks designed to be layered into your everyday spaces. Pieces that hold feeling, story, and a little sparks of wonder.
You can explore them here and begin building your own whimsy wall, shelf, or sacred corner.

And if you do, I would love to see it. (I know that there are several of you out there who have LilliBean walls, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE!) Tag me, share it, let me peek into your world.
Because truly, there is nothing more beautiful than a home that feels like you.
From my whimsy world to yours.
